| Spanish abstract | En este estudio se intenta categorizar a la democracia en América Latina en los años noventa, analizando los acontecimientos insólitos de su historia, cuyos numerosos cambios de diversa naturaleza han propiciado la instauración de gobiernos democráticos en casi todos los países de la región en el lapso de casi una década. El autor pone de manifiesto los antecedentes que propiciaron estas transiciones durante los años ochenta y las repercusiones de las condiciones en que ocurrieron, así como el salto cualitativo que los nuevos sistemas democráticos deberán dar para superar la notable incertidumbre en la que se encuentran y finalmente alcanzar el grado de democracias consolidadas |
| English abstract | This article classifies the different types of democracy during the eighties in Latin America. It discusses the striking events in their history, the diverse upturns that have made possible the establishment of democratic governments in most of the countries of this region in almost a decade. The author analyzes the background elements that eventually brought about such transitions during the eighties, as well as the influence that the political circumstances had in all the process. He also states that in the years to come, the new democratic systems will have to redress their shortcomings in order to reach a really sound democracy |
