Spanish abstract | En México, no se cuenta con herramientas para evaluar las necesidades psicosociales de niños que enfrentan un diagnóstico de cáncer. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo desarrollar una herramienta que permitiera identifi car y jerarquizar las necesidades psicosociales de esta población. La herramienta desarrollada fue utilizada con 24 pacientes hemato-onco-pediátricos de entre cuatro y 17 años que reciben tratamiento en un hospital perteneciente a la Secretaría de Salud de la Ciudad de México. Los resultados preliminares revelaron que las necesidades prioritarias para los pacientes fueron: recibir información y explicaciones de su enfermedad, procedimientos y tratamiento, acompañamiento de sus padres, seguridad y protección, continuidad en su escolaridad, visitas de familiares y estar con sus hermanos; mientras que las menos importantes fueron: la familiaridad con el hospital y decoración hospitalaria |
English abstract | In Mexico, there are no tools to assess the psychosocial needs of children facing a diagnosis of cancer. The present investigation aimed to develop a tool that would allow identifying and prioritizing the psychosocial needs of this population. The developed tool was used with 24 hematooncology pediatric patients between 4 and 17 years old who receive treatment in a Hospital belonging to the Secretary of Health of Mexico City. The preliminary results revealed that the priority needs for the patients were: receiving information and explanations of their illness, procedures and treatment, parent company, safety and protection, continuity in their schooling, family visits and being with their siblings; while the least important were: familiarity with the hospital and hospital decoration |
