Spanish abstract | Describir las causas y características de los pacientes que fallecieron en un hospital pediátrico de tercer nivel de atención en el año 2016. Material y Métodos: Estudio transversal y descriptivo. El universo de estudio fueron 183 fallecidos. Fuente de datos: historias clínicas. Se estimaron frecuencias absolutas, relativas, medidas de tendencia central y dispersión. Se calculó la tasa de mortalidad hospitalaria por cada 1,000 egresos. Resultados: 58.4% de los fallecimientos correspondió a menores de un año, siendo los más afectados los niños entre 0 y 28 días. Las causas no infecciosas predominaron con 68.3%. Las malformaciones congénitas, la neumonía y el cáncer constituyeron 65.1% del total de fallecidos. Conclusiones: La mortalidad fue mayor en los menores de un año. Las malformaciones congénitas, la neumonía y cáncer son las principales causas de defunción |
English abstract | To describe the causes and characteristics of the patients who died in a pediatric tertiary care hospital in 2016. Material and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. The universe of study were 183 deceased children. Data sources: medical records. Absolute, relative frequencies, measures of central tendency and dispersion were estimated. The hospital mortality rate was calculated per 1,000 discharges. Results: 58.4% of the deaths corresponded to children under one year of age; the most affected were children between 0 and 28 days. Non-infectious causes were the main with 68.3%. Congenital malformations, pneumonia and cancer accounted for 65.1% of total deaths. Conclusions: Mortality was higher in children under one year. Congenital malformations, pneumonia and cancer are the leading causes of death |
