Spanish abstract Con el objetivo de determinar el porcentaje de niños y adolescentes supuestamente sanos que presentan cifras consideradas de riesgo o con franca hipercolesterolemia, ya sea con antecedentes familiares de la misma o sin ellos, que acuden al Laboratorio del Hospital General de Zapopan a otras determinaciones, se estudiaron 153 pacientes (84 hombres y 69 mujeres) con edades entre cinco y 18 años tomados al azar. Sus antecedentes familiares de hipercolesterolemia y/o padecimientos relacionados con ésta fueron investigados mediante cuestionario. También fueron investigados sus hábitos alimentarios, actividad física y adicciones, para tratar de determinar si estas variables tienen alguna influencia sobre las cifras de colesterol. El análisis estadístico se realizó con la prueba t de Student. Resultados: 22.87% del total de sujetos presentó cifras de colesterol por encima del valor ideal; 81.7% presentaba antecedentes familiares de hipercolesterolemia o padecimientos relacionados con ésta; 16.3% pacientes estudiados, se encontraba con valores de colesterol considerados de riesgo (≥ de 170 mg/dL y < de 200 mg/dL) con una cifra promedio de 180.44 mg/dL; 6.5 presentaron cifras francamente hipercolesterolémicas (≥ 200 mg/dL), promedio de 222.8 mg/dL. Se formó un grupo en el que se incluyó a los pacientes que tenían antecedentes familiares de hipercolesterolemia o padecimientos relacionados con ésta y otro sin antecedentes. Se encontró que 15.2% de los pacientes con antecedentes familiares y 10.7% del grupo sin estos antecedentes, presentó cifras de colesterol de riesgo. En cuanto a los niveles de colesterol mayores de 200 mg/dL considerados patológicos, se encontraron en 7.2% de los sujetos con antecedentes familiares y 3.5% de los pacientes sin antecedentes. Se registró mayor incidencia de cifras de riesgo y de hipercolesterolemia en el grupo con antecedentes familiares
English abstract In order to determine the percentage of children and adolescents supposedly healthy presenting figures considered at risk or frank with hypercholesterolemia, either with a family history of the same or without them, arriving at the Laboratory of the Hospital General de Zapopan other determinations are studied 153 patients (84 males and 69 females) aged between 5 and 18 selected at random and were investigated by questionnaire their family history of hypercholesterolemia and/or conditions related to this. The results found that 22.87% of patients presented figures cholesterol above the ideal value. 81.7% had a family history of hypercholesterolemia or aliments related to it. 16.3% of the patients studied were with figures cholesterol considered at risk (of ≥ 170 mg/dL and < 200 mg/dL) with an average figure of cholesterol 186.44 mg/dL and 6.5 figures frankly hypercholesterolemics (≥ 200 mg/dL) with an average figure of cholesterol 222.8 mg/dL. It formed a group which included those who had a family history of hypercholesterolemia or ailments related to this and another with those who do not show up. In these groups found that 15.2% of patients with a family history figures cholesterol risk, where in the group without this background, only 10.7% presented. As for cholesterol levels greater than 200 mg/dL considered pathological, was found in 7.2% of patients with a family history and only 3.5% of patients with no such history, showing a higher incidence of both figures risk and hypercholesterolemia in the group with a family history.
