| Spanish abstract | Al inicio de la Independencia existían en México tres escuelas donde podían instruirse los médicos y cirujanos. La Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de México era la más antigua y también la más tradicional. En ella dominaba el modelo humoral de cuyo equilibrio dependía la salud; estaba sustentado en un conocimiento de corte medieval y con base en el método escolástico. A finales del siglo XVIII, la Nueva España se incorporó al movimiento de la Ilustración, con lo que se inició una apertura intelectual y de florecimiento científico. La Botánica se incorporó al currículo de la Facultad de Medicina y los estudiantes pudieron acercarse a la disección y a nuevas teorías médicas, pero, sobre todo, a otro modelo de enseñanza, ello a través del Real Colegio de Cirugía, institución que se creó en este periodo |
| English abstract | There were three schools of medicine in Mexico at the beginning of the Independence time where the doctors and surgeons could learn. In the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mexico, the most ancient and traditional, the humoral model balance based on medieval knowledge and scholastic method was the rule. At the end of the XVIII century, the Nueva España enrollment in the Illustration movement, this led to an opening period and development of the scientific world. Botany was incorporated to curriculum in medicine school and the students could through the courses of the Surgery College approached to new medical theories and other teaching model without restrictions |
