| Spanish abstract | Vibrio vulnificus es una bacteria gramnegativa que se encuentra en ambientes marinos y estuarinos, y puede causar septicemia primaria por dos mecanismos: al ingerir crustáceos, moluscos, algunos peces o mariscos filtradores crudos o poco cocidos, o por exponer una herida abierta al agua de mar. Los pacientes con infecciones de la herida primaria por esta bacteria desarrollan celulitis dolorosa que progresa rápidamente, así como una marcada inflamación local del tejido con flictenas hemorrágicas y necróticas. En el presente escrito se informa un caso de sepsis por Vibrio vulnificus, el cuadro clínico, los antecedentes epidemiológicos, los resultados de laboratorio y la revisión de la literatura relacionada con el tema |
| English abstract | Vibrio vulnificus is a negative gram bacterium which is found in marine environments and where there is a partly enclosed coastal body of water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea. The infection by these bacteria can cause primary septicemia for two mechanisms: upon consuming crustaceans, mollusks and some fish (filtering shellfish) raw or little stews or by an open injury in contact with seawater. The patients with infections of the primary injury by Vibrio vulnificus developed contaminated painful cellulitis that progress quickly as well as a marked local inflammation with signs of hemorrhaging. We described a case of Vibrio vulnificus sepsis, with emphasis in the clinical picture, the epidemiological background and lab findings; finally we did a brief review of the literature related to the case |
