| Spanish abstract | En el siglo XX, varios países de América Latina documentaron los esfuerzos que se hicieron para capacitar al personal de las bibliotecas y para formarlos profesionalmente con el objetivo de que respondieran al complejo mundo de la información, fundamental para alcanzar una cultura universal y para acceder a los logros de ciencia y tecnología que requería cada uno de nuestros pueblos. Más tarde, hubo un trabajo muy destacado para la creación de la Escuela Interamericana de Bibliotecología (EIB). En efecto, esta fue fundada el 19 de octubre de 1956, en cuyo nombre delineaba ya su destino y sus objetivos: un organismo universitario inserto en el sistema de la Universidad de Antioquia, con vocación latinoamericana, al formar cuadros profesionales para las bibliotecas de la Región, con aspiraciones de modernidad y con una currícula de calidad que incluyera las corrientes en boga de la bibliotecología mundial. El artículo aborda la importancia que esa institución otorgó a su biblioteca y al personal académico que, desde el principio, ha sido fundamental en el desarrollo de esa entidad académica. Asimismo, destaca la labor y la proyección de la Revista Interamericana de Bibliotecología en los países del entorno, así como la contribución de las reuniones internacionales y la actualización de los intercambios académicos para la consolidación de la disciplina bibliotecológica |
| English abstract | During the twentieth century, several Latin American countries have documented the efforts that were made to train the libraries’ staff and to develop them professionally so that they could respond to the complex world of information, which is fundamental in order to be able to reach an universal culture and to be able to access the achievements of science and technology that all of our peoples required. Years later, an outstanding effort was made that concluded in the creation of the Interamerican Library School. In fact, it was founded on October 19th 1956 and in its name outlined its destiny and objectives: to be an university body, within the University of Antioquia, with a Latin American vocation by training professionals for the libraries in the Region, with aspirations for modernity and with a quality syllabus that included the worlds most updated currents. This paper addresses the importance that this institution gave to its own library and its academic staff that from the beginning has been fundamental for the development of this academic institution. At the same time it highlights the work and the projection of the Revista Interamericana de Bibliotecología in the neighboring countries, as well as the contribution of international meetings and the updating of the academic exchanges for the consolidation of the Libarianship |
