| Spanish abstract | A partir de una reflexión sobre el concepto de e-book, la investigación realiza una revisión bibliográfica y se aproxima a las previsiones del desarrollo del sector editorial en España, mediante un estudio comparativo. Como fuente de análisis se tomaron cifras de los años 2008 y 2009 que proporcionan numerosos informes del sector sobre hábitos de lectura, mercado editorial y oferta de e-books en España. Se presenta una caracterización de los lectores de libros impresos y de e-books, y se estudia el posicionamiento de la industria del libro español ante el libro electrónico, para concluir que el e-book tendrá un elevado crecimiento en el corto plazo, aunque se cree que no sustituirá al libro físico |
| English abstract | This study reflects on the concept of the e-book. It reviews the available literature and uses a comparative approach to develop forecasts about publishing in Spain. We take our figures from industry reports for the years 2008 and 2009 which contain information on the publishing market, reading habits, and e-book availability in Spain. We present detailed descriptions of the typical readers of printed books and e-books, studied the current standing of the Spanish publishing industry with respect to the electronic book, and conclude that in the short term, the e-book will have considerable growth but that it will not replace the printed book |
