| English abstract | A descriptive study is done on the behavior of the hypertensive emergency patients who presented with this illness at the Integral Diagnostic Center Bella Vista, from January to December 2011. The universe consists of 250 hypertensive patients older than 20 years who went to this center more than three times which took a nonrandom sample of 164 patients also met the criteria for inclusion. To fulfill the objectives, it was applied a form in which was collected a group of clinical and epidemiological variables such as patients over 61 years, female gender, and workers from their homes. The 71.34% presented medical history of hypertension, more than half did not do the medical treatment or diet. The abandonment of treatment was the cause of high blood pressure in most of the studied cases, the evolutionary treatment was considered satisfactory in 98.20% of patients, it is recommended to extend the study in other health institutions. |
| Spanish abstract | Se realiza un estudio descriptivo transversal sobre el comportamiento de la urgencia hipertensiva en pacientes que acudieron al Centro de Diagnóstico Integral "Bella Vista", durante el período enero-diciembre de 2011. El universo está constituido por 250 pacientes hipertensos mayores de 20 años que acuden en más de tres ocasiones ha dicho servicio de los cuales se toma una muestra no probabilística a conveniencia de 164 pacientes que cumplieron además con los criterios de inclusión. Para el cumplimiento de los objetivos se aplica un formulario donde se recogen un grupo de variables clínicos epidemiológicos. Predominaron los pacientes de más 61 años, sexo femenino, trabajadores y los procedentes de sus hogares. El 71.34 % presentaron antecedentes patológicos personales de hipertensión arterial, más de la mitad no cumplían el tratamiento médico y/o dietético. El abandono del tratamiento fue la causa del aumento de la tensión arterial en la mayoría de los casos estudiados. |
