| English abstract | The use of medicinal plants is integrant part of the culture native of northeastern Brazil in their more several regions physiographical. With the purpose of performing part of this lacuna, it objectified in this study rescue the registration of the various native plants of Cariri Paraibano emphasizing his several uses in the popular medicine. Like methodological procedures they accomplished the bibliographical census followed by interviews with salesmen of medicinal plants in the region that own great knowledge of the local plants. They were registered 60 species and 34 families, most of these are represented by only a species. The families who presented the biggest number of species were Fabaceae, Solanaceae, Asteraceae and Bromeliaceae, respectively. Among the registered species stood out as more popular for her medicinal properties the next species: Erythrina velutina Willd; Licania rigida Benth, Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Gnaw. & Schult.) T.D. | Portuguese abstract | O uso de plantas medicinais é parte integrante da cultura nordestina nas suas mais diversas regiões fisiográficas; no entanto o seu largo emprego não tem tido a atenção necessária no que tange as publicações na área de ecologia. Com a finalidade de preencher parte desta la cuna, objetivou-se neste estudo resgatar o registro das várias plantas nativas do Cariri Paraibano enfatizando seus diversos usos na medicina popular. Como procedimentos metodológicos realizaram-se o recenseamento bibliográfico seguido de entrevistas com vendedores de plantas medicinais na região, que possuem grande conhecimento das plantas locais. Foram registradas 60 espécies e 34 famílias, a maioria dessas está representada por apenas uma espécie. As famílias que apresentaram o maior número de espécie foram a Fabaceae e a Solanaceae e, Asteraceae e Bromeliaceae, respectivamente. Dentre as espécies registradas destacaram-se como mais populares por suas propriedades medicinais as seguintes espécies: Erythrina velutina Willd, Licania rigida Benth, Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Roem. & Schult.)
