| Resumen en español | El desarrollo de la cadena forestal en Venezuela podría constituirse en una alternativa para la diversificación de la economía, así como una estrategia para alcanzar el manejo sustentable de los recursos naturales. A pesar de las potencialidades para desarrollarla, no se ha logrado una participación importante en el PIB, pues éste representa poco más del 1% ubicándose por debajo del promedio latinoamericano, sin embargo esa cifra podría ser mayor si pudieran contabilizarse otras actividades incluidas en otros sectores así como los beneficios intangibles. Conocer la tendencia histórica de la participación de las actividades forestales en el PIB, así como las variables macroeconómicas que tienen influencia en el crecimiento de la cadena son de relevancia para corregir la tendencia y adoptar políticas que incentiven el crecimiento de la misma. La contribución de las actividades forestales al PIB total ha venido disminuyendo desde los años 50, a pesar de que en valores absolutos éste ha tenido una tendencia creciente, lo que se explica por un crecimiento más lento que el de otros sectores de la economía. El sector secundario de la cadena forestal es el que mayor contribución tiene al crecimiento económico, y dentro de él , la fabricación de Papel y Celulosa es la actividad con mayor crecimiento en el período estudiado. Utilizando un modelo econométrico se pudo determinar que el crecimiento del PIB de las actividades forestales tiene una alta dependencia de la misma variable rezagada en un período, del crecimiento de la economía, y de la tasa de interés para préstamos del sector industrial, variables que han influido en el estancamiento reciente de la cadena forestal |
| Resumen en inglés | The development of the forestry production chain in Venezuela should be constituted in an alternative for the diversification of the economy, as well as a strategy to reach the sustainable management of the natural resources. In spite of the potentialities to develop that production chain, an important participation has not been achieved in the GNP, because this represents littlemore than 1%, being located below the Latin American average. However, that number could be bigger if other activities included in other economics sectors, could be counted, including the intangible benefits. To know the historical tendency of the participation of the forest activities in the GNP, and the macroeconomic variables that have influenced in the growth of the production chain are relevant to correct the tendency and to adopt policies that motivate the growth of the production chain. The contribution of the forest activities to the total GNP has become diminishing since the fifties. Although that is in absolute values, the forestry production chain has had a growing tendency, what is explained by a growth slower than the other sectors of the economy. The forest secondary sector of the chain is the one that has a bigger contribution to the production chain, the paper production and cellulose is the activity with more growth in the studied period. Using an econometric model, it was established that the growth of the GNP of the forest activities has a high dependence on the same variable lagged one period, of the growth of the economy, and of the interest rate of loans of the industrial sector, variable that has influenced the recent stagnation of this production chain |
