| Spanish abstract | Todos los seres humanos dependen de los bosques. Paradójicamente, muchas de las comunidades habitantes de los bosques sufren de pobreza estructural. De allí la importancia de impulsar una participación más equitativa en los beneficios derivados de los productos forestales no madereros –PFNM- bajo criterios de desarrollo sostenido. Para proponer acciones viables destinadas a elevar la calidad de vida de estas comunidades, lo primero es realizar un diagnóstico objetivo de la situación actual, con la finalidad de esclarecer las causas y los efectos de la pobreza y visualizar la estrategia para revertir la realidad actual. Un análisis razonado de la situación de los habitantes de los bosques venezolanos y sus formas de subsistencia condujo a concluir que la etapa preliminar para proceder a la planificación del desarrollo sostenible de los bosques y sus habitantes es la del registro de datos verdaderos sobre PFNM |
| English abstract | All human beings depend on the forests. However, many of the communities living in the forests suffer from structural poverty. Therefore, it is important to impel an equitable participation in the derived incomes from non-wood forest products –NWFP- managed under sustainable development criteria. In order to propose actions to increase the life quality of these communities, we must first make the objective diagnosis of the present situation, with the aim of clarifying the causes and effects of the poverty and protecting a strategy to revert the present reality. A reasoned analysis of the situation of the Venezuelan forests inhabitants and their subsistence lead to conclude that the planning preliminary stage for the sustainable development begins in the collection of true data about NWFP |
