| Spanish abstract | Esta investigación identificó, cuantificó y analizó la cobertura vegetal del Parque Nacional Henri Pittier, relacionando cuencas hidrográficas y unidades de zonificación con la unidad de vegetación bosque nublado (BN). Para esto se usó una gama de información cartográfica de diversas instituciones, escalas, representación, formatos y software. Entre los hallazgos se evidenció reducción de las superficies bajo bosques, causada por incendios. Los BN ocupan la mayor superficie (38,8%). Las áreas quemadas bajo BN son invadidas por herbazales. La cuenca de Chuao es la que tiene mayor área cubierta de BN. La cuenca del rio Güey es la única cuenca, de la vertiente sur, sin BN. La zona de protección integral (ZPI) ocupa la mayor superficie y ésta está presente en todas las unidades de vegetación. Además, gran proporción del parque está bajo la ZPI y de éstas 56,9% son bosques; y simultáneamente, 41,8% son BN. AbstractThis research identified, quantified, and analyzed the vegetation cover of Henri Pittier National Park, Venezuela, in relation to watersheds and zoning units by means of cartographic information from a number of institutions, scales, representation, formats, and software. Among the findings, there was a reduction in the areas under forests, caused by fires. The BN occupy the largest area (38.8%). Burned areas under BN are invaded by grasslands. The Chuao basin is the one with the largest area covered by BN. The Güey river basin is the only basin, on the southern slope, without BN. The integral protection zone (ZPI) occupies the largest area and it is present in all the vegetation units. In addition, a large proportion of the park is under the ZPI and of these, 56.9% are forests; and simultaneously, 41.8% are BN. |
