| English abstract | Roman Lusitania, as well as other Roman provincial regions, began to be prominent in antiquity investigations a few decades ago. In the earliest stud-ies of the Roman Empire these far-flung spaces were supportive and, in a naive form, Lusitania was considered to be part of the outermost Empire. Thus, the Atlantic strip of the Iberian Peninsula was also less studied. The purpose of this essay is to (re) think and (re) interpret the Roman Empire and propose a vision that intends to contribute to a more up-to-date understanding of what the Roman Empire was. The general concepts that order this attempt of revision are those of integration, navigation and frontier |
| Portuguese abstract | A Lusitânia Romana, bem como outras regiões provinciais romanas, começou a ter destaque nas investigações sobre a Antiguidade há poucas décadas. Nos primeiros estudos sobre o Império Romano estes espaços longínquos foram coadjuvantes e, de uma forma ingênua, a Lusitânia foi considerada como sendo parte da ultraperiferia do Império. Sendo assim, a faixa atlântica da Península Ibérica, também foi menos estudada. O objetivo deste ensaio é (re)pensar e (re)interpretar o Império Romano e propor uma visão que pretende contribuir para uma compreensão mais atualizada do que foi o Império Romano. Os conceitos gerais que ordenam essa tentativa de revisão são os de integração, navegação e fronteira |
