| Spanish abstract | Los árboles de jacaranda abundan en parques y avenidas de México, son apreciados por aportar sombra y belleza a espacios públicos; así como por sus llamativas flores de color azul-violeta. Sin embargo, quizá nunca nos hemos hecho preguntas como: ¿se han realizado estudios científicos al árbol y la flor de jacaranda?, ¿a qué se debe el llamativo color de las flores de este árbol?, o si, además de bellas, ¿estas flores podrían ser útiles? Efectivamente, se han realizado algunas investigaciones sobre estas interesantes flores para su aprovechamiento en diferentes áreas. | English abstract | Jacaranda trees are abundant in parks and avenues of Mexico, they are valued for providing shade and beauty in public spaces and they attract attention for their blue-violet flowers. However, perhaps we have never asked ourselves if the jacaranda trees and flowers have been studied, the reason for the striking color of the flowers, or even if, in addition to being beautiful, these flowers could be useful.
