| Spanish abstract | El tricoepitelioma es un tumor benigno hamartomatoso del folículo pilosebáceo que puede ocurrir como una lesión solitaria no hereditaria o como múltiples lesiones que generalmente son autosómicas dominantes. El gen para la tricoepiteliomatosis múltiple se encuentra en el locus 9p21. La prevalencia exacta no se conoce. La mayoría comúnmente aparece en la infancia o en la pubertad. Las bases moleculares de estos tumores no se han determinado aún, datos recientes sugieren que un gen supresor tumoral puede estar involucrado. | English abstract | Trichoepithelioma is a benign hamartomatous tumor of the pilosebaceous follicle that may occur either as a nonhereditary solitary lesion or as multiple lesions that are often dominantly inherited. The gene for multiple trichoepitheliomas (MTs) has been mapped to a locus 9p21. The exact prevalence is unknown. They most commonly appear in early childhood or at puberty. The molecular basis for the tumor has not yet to be determinated, current data suggest that a tumor suppressor gene may be involved.
