| English abstract | In Brazil, in the years of 1842 and 1843, the Gemidos poéticos sobre os túmulos and the Ramalhete poético do parnaso italiano were published by the Italian Luiz Vicente De Simoni, who was living in our country. These books contain, in the preface, relevant refl ections about the theory and practice of translation. The translator describes the concept of “fi delity”, an important term to the discussions on translation, contrasting with the French school of the belles infi dèles. To this concept he addes the “taste”, which presence is essential in the work of the translator. The present article wants to bring back the same aspects of the refl ections about the act of translating by this translator of the XIX century |
| Portuguese abstract | Em 1842 e 1843, no Brasil, foram publicados, respectivamente, os Gemidos poéticos sobre os túmulos e o Ramalhete poético do parnaso italiano, obras de tradução realizadas pelo italiano Luiz Vicente De Simoni, radicado em nosso país. Tais volumes contêm, principalmente nos prefácios, pensamentos relevantes sobre a teoria e a prática da tradução. O tradutor busca delinear o conceito de “fi delidade”, termo caro às discussões sobre tradução de sua época, contrapondo-se à corrente francesa das belles infi dèles. A esse conceito, acrescenta o “gosto”, cuja presença é essencial no trabalho de De Simoni. O presente artigo tem o intuito de trazer à luz alguns aspectos da refl exão sobre o ato de traduzir deste tradutor do século XIX |
