| Spanish abstract | El trabajo tiene como objetivo investigar las relaciones de continuidad y tensión entre el proyecto moderno, el pensamiento religioso y la propuesta eugénica en el contexto chileno. El trabajo inicia con una reflexión general sobre las relaciones entre eugenesia y religión en el contexto moderno, para luego abordar fuentes primarias que incluyen textos de médicos y abogados chilenos de la primera mitad del siglo XX. El resultado fundamental del trabajo demuestra que el debate del pensamiento eugénico en el contexto nacional no estuvo ajeno a las fuerzas religiosas, utópicas y mistificantes que tendían a ver la eugenesia como la religión del futuro y como un pensamiento de vanguardia, alternativo y crítico del cristianismo. Por otra parte, destaca también como resultado del trabajo, una aproximación y revalorización de las relaciones entre catolicismo y eugenesia en el contexto chileno |
| English abstract | The work aims to investigate the relationships of continuity and tension between the modern project, religious thought and the eugenic thinking in the Chilean context. The work begins with a general reflection on the relationship between eugenics and religion in the modern context, and then engages with primary sources that includes works by lawyers and physicians of the first half of the chilean twentieth century.The main result of the study shows that the discussion of eugenic thought in the national context was no stranger to religious, utopian and mystifying forces, which tends to see eugenics as the religion of the future and as a thinking alternative and critical of Christianity. Moreover, also stands out as a result of this work, a new appreciation of the relationships between Catholicism and eugenics in the Chilean context |
