Spanish abstract The purpose of this article is to discuss the technical concept of “res” (“thing”) in the language of the classical jurists. We come to t he conclusion t hat said expression is only inherent to things susceptible to be object of the action of restitution. From this perspective, to clarify the notion of res is a previous and essential step to have a complete understanding of what the jurists meant when using the expression “res publicae”
