English abstract | Children born to HIV-1 infected mothers present a more severe clinical evolution than adults or children infected by other routes. The physiologic immaturity of the fetal and neonatal immune systems at the time of the infection probably plays an essential role in the progression of HIV-1 infection in these children. This paper describes the development of the normal human immune system and its correlation with the immunopathogenicity of vertical acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) |
