| English abstract | This study was designed to compare the performance of of fi ve-year-old children with and without musical practice in auditory processing and audience-listening tasks. The theoretical background was composed by interdisciplinary studies in the fi elds of Music Education and Speech and Language Therapy. The methodological procedures involved the application of a questionnaire in order to select and describe the sample and the assessment of the participants by Auditory Processing and Audience-listening tasks. 56 children without any speech, language or hearing disorders participated in the study. They were divided into two groups (study group and control group). The results showed that musical practice has a positive infl uence with statistical signifi cance on the assessed auditory skills: Sequential Memory Test for verbal and non-verbal sounds with four sound stimuli and in the Audience-listening task |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente estudo buscou comparar o desempenho de crianças de cinco anos com e sem prática musical em tarefas de processamento auditivo e de apreciação musical. Como referenciais teóricos foram adotados estudos interdisciplinares das áreas da educação musical e fonoaudiologia. Os procedimentos metodológicos envolveram aplicação de questionário a fi m de selecionar e caracterizar a amostra e a avaliação por meio de testes de processamento auditivo e tarefa de apreciação musical. Foram avaliadas 56 crianças sem alterações de fala, linguagem ou audição. Elas foram distribuídas em dois grupos (grupo de estudo e grupo-controle). Os resultados demonstraram que a prática musical exerce infl uência positiva sobre habilidades auditivas avaliadas nos testes de memória sequencial verbal e não-verbal com quatro estímulos sonoros e na tarefa de apreciação musical, com signifi cância estatística |
