| English abstract | The Aphis gossypii Glover 1877, cotton aphid, can provoke significant losses in the productivity of susceptible cotton cultivars. However, the development of colonies of this insect can be reduced or interrupted in resistant cotton. This work has the objective of evaluating the A. gossypii behaviour in ten cultivars of Gossypium hirsutum L. in greenhouse. Plants of the cultivars: BRS Antares, CNPA 8H, BRS Sucupira, BRS ITA 96, BRS 201, BRS Facual, BRS Ipê, CNPA ITA 90, CNPA Precoce 3 and DeltaOpal were infested with five adult aphids after sixteen days of the germination. The counting of the number of adult/plant was made after 24 hours of infestation and of the number of nymphs and of adult/plant after six days of infestation. There was not statistical difference among the cultivars, which showed 4.1 adults after 24 hours of infestation, 7.8 and 62.9 nymphs and adults after six days of infestation, respectively |
| Portuguese abstract | O Aphis gossypii Glover 1877, pulgão do algodoeiro, pode provocar perdas significativas na produtividade de cultivares susceptíveis de algodoeiro. Contudo, o desenvolvimento de colônias deste inseto pode ser reduzido ou interrompido em algodoeiros resistentes. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar o comportamento de pulgões em cultivares de Gossypium hirsutum L. r. latifolium Hutch em condições de casa-de-vegetação. Plantas das cultivares: BRS Antares, CNPA 8H, BRS Sucupira, BRS ITA 96, BRS 201, BRS Facual, BRS Ipê, CNPA ITA 90, CNPA Precoce 3 e DeltaOpal foram infestadas com cinco pulgões adultos após quinze dias de germinação. A contagem do número de adultos/planta foi feita após 24 horas de infestação e do número de ninfas e de adultos/planta após seis dias de infestação. Não houve diferença significativa entre as cultivares, as quais apresentaram 4,1 adultos após 24 horas de infestação e 7,8 e 62,9 ninfas e adultos após seis dias de infestação, respectivamente |
