| Spanish abstract | El trabajo analiza los artículos de costumbres de las revistas ilustradas mexicanas El Museo Mexicano (1843-1846), dirigida en su primera época por Guillermo Prieto y Manuel Payno, y Revista Científica y Literaria (1845-1846) de la que fueron también los redactores. Se examina “Cuadros de costumbres” de Prieto, que debe considerarse programático, y se estudian los artículos como componentes de un proyecto de mexicanización del país y de definición y reforma de la nueva nación mexicana, prestando atención a la compleja dinámica que mantiene respecto de las intromisiones foráneas, especialmente francesas y españolas. Asimismo, se estudia la voluntad de sus editores de construir una nación inclusiva desde el punto de vista geográfico y social, que se aprecia en este tipo de textos. |
| English abstract | This paper studies the artículos de costumbres of the Mexican illustrated magazines El Museo Mexicano (1843-1846), directed in its first period by Guillermo Prieto and Manuel Payno, and Revista Científica y Literaria (1845-1846), also edited by both. It analyzes the article titled “Cuadros de costumbres” by Prieto, which should be considered programmatic, and studies the articles as a part of a project to Mexicanize the country, to define and reform the new Mexican nation. It also focuses on the on the complex dynamics that it maintains with respect to foreign influence, especially French and Spanish. At the same time, it pays attention to the will of the publishers to build a nation that is geographically and socially inclusive. |
