| English abstract | The article intends to analyze the process of formation of the national identity of Brazil. A continuous and multifaceted process is verified, as a consequence of the influences and inclusions of many variables – political, economical, cultural and social – that have been altered and that are still changing today, because of the time passage and the birth of new ideologies, or even the return or continuation of old ones. Therefore, the process of the development of an identity is presented, that today results on the emphasis of the South-American character of the country |
| Portuguese abstract | No artigo se propõe analisar o processo de formação da identidade nacional do Brasil. Verifica-se, assim, um processo contínuo e multifacetado, como conseqüência das influências e inclusões de inúmeras variáveis políticas, econômicas, culturais e sociais, que se alteraram e se alteram até os nossos dias, com a decorrência da passagem do tempo e com o surgimento de novas ideologias, ou mesmo o retorno ou perpetuação das antigas. Assim sendo, apresenta-se uma trajetória do desenvolvimento identitário, que hoje, culmina na ênfase do caráter sul-americano do país |
