| English abstract | Glenohumeral arthrosis in patients with subacromial im- pingement syndrome: arthroscopic study With the purpose of assessing the frequency of early gle-nohumeral arthrosis, in patients with the subacromial im- pingement syndrome, and of assessing the effectiveness of plain shoulder X-rays to detect such syndrome, the authors performed a retrospective study of plain X-rays and videoarthroscopy tapes of 48 patients who were operated on, with a diagnosis of subacromial impingement syndrome, without total tear of the rotator cuff. X-rays of all patients were con-sidered normal. Review of the video tapes, however, did showthat 9 (19%) of the patients had a degenerating chondropa-thy of the humeral head compatible with the initial arthrosisdiagnosis. The authors draw attention to a possible associa-tion between non-identified glenohumeral arthrosis and poor results in the treatment of the rotator cuff syndrome |
| Portuguese abstract | Com o objetivo de avaliar a freqüência de artrose gle-numeral inicial em pacientes portadores de síndrome dopinçamento subacromial e verificar a eficácia das radio-grafias simples do ombro em sua detecção, foram estuda-das retrospectivamente radiografias simples e filmes devideoartroscopia de 48 pacientes operados com diagnós-tico de síndrome do pinçamento subacromial, sem lesãototal do manguito rotador. As radiografias de todos ospacientes examinados foram consideradas normais. A re-visão dos videoteipes, no entanto, permitiu verificar quenove (19%) dos pacientes apresentavam condropatia de-generativa da cabeça umeral, compatível com o diagnós-tico de artrose inicial.
