| English abstract | It is necessary to stimulate the discussion of investigation of the history of education in the Portuguese America. The advance and innovation of the study of Brazilian education in the colonial time imply the investigation of educational processes and practices that go beyond the action of the State or of the Church, and that favor such practices in the day-to-day life of the colonial Brazilian society, involving apprenticeships and cultural exchanges about techniques, trades, and knowledges derived from several cultural origins that could be found here. This does not mean quitting looking at them in the whole set of official initiatives for the implementation of schooling, but rather attempting to understand them in the context of a miscegenated society |
| Portuguese abstract | É cada vez mais necessário estimular a discussão da investigação da história da educação na América portuguesa. O avanço e a inovação no estudo da educação brasileira no período colonial implicam a investigação de processos e de práticas educativas que extrapolem a ação do Estado ou da Igreja, e que se privilegie tais práticas no cotidiano da sociedade brasileira colonial, envolvendo os aprendizados e as trocas culturais sobre técnicas, ofícios e saberes provenientes de várias origens culturais que aqui se encontravam. Isso não significa deixar de vê-las, também, no conjunto das iniciativas oficiais para a implementação da educação escolar, mas de entendê-las no contexto de uma sociedade mestiça |
