| English abstract | This paper is a critical reflection on the novel “El lugar sin límites” written by Jose Donoso, which is usually considered characteristic of the “boom” of Latin American literature; it is also representative of the identities, gender relations, sexualities and forms of violence in Latin American societies. A sociological analysis of social constructs embodied in the characters and their relationships is conducted, focusing on representations of violence related to sexuality, gender and the territories / boundaries in the narrative. The characteristics of the protagonists and the links between them are taken into account as expressions of present cultural and imaginary constructs. In this framework the article approaches the relationship between violence and the positions of subordination and abjection, examining the specific relationships between the characters through: relations of power / gender, hierarchies, alliances and conflicts, forms of violence, sexualities and territorial spaces in which they occur |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo é uma reflexão crítica sobre o romance “El lugar sin límites” escrito por José Donoso, considerado característico do “boom” da literatura latino-americana, mais também representativo das identidades, relações de gênero, sexualidades e formas de violência nas sociedades latino-americanas. Este trabalho visa fazer uma análise sociológica das construções sociais incorporadas nos personagens e suas relações. Focalizando as representações da violência em relação à sexualidade, gênero e os territórios / limites na obra, refletindo sobre as características dos personagens protagonistas e as ligações que entre elos emergem como expressões do imaginário cultural e construções presentes. Neste quadro, considera-se a relação entre violência e as posições de subalternidade e abjeção. Para isso centra-se nas particularidades das relações específicas entre os personagens, tendo como eixos: as relações de poder / gênero e hierarquias, alianças e conflitos, as formas de violência, sexualidades e espaços territoriais em que ocorrem as suas ligações |
