| Spanish abstract | El artículo parte de la premisa "la información es poder", para afirmar que la información que provee el Sistema Estadístico Nacional (SEN) también es poder. Para analizar la situación argentina a este respecto se describen dos mecanismos: la manipulación abierta de la información en política contingente y la producción de datos sesgados ideológicamente, tal como se han manifestado en la Argentina en las últimas décadas. A tal efecto, enumera algunos efectos de este accionar en términos de las dimensiones sociales que desconocemos totalmente y de aquellas que conocemos poco y mal. Se resalta la perentoria necesidad de que los científicos sociales se involucren activamente en todo cambio de la organización del SEN, sin cuyo compromiso, las ciencias sociales seguirán tan limitadas en su práctica como lo están en el presente respecto a cuestiones centrales |
| English abstract | The present article takes the proposition "information is power" as the starting point to state that this is also valid for the information provided by the National Statistical System (SEN). Two mechanisms are described in order to analyze the situation in Argentina in what comes to these affairs: the evident manipulation of information in contingent politics, and the production of ideologically biased data, which is how they have been displayed in the last few decades. To do so, it will give account of some of the effects of these procedures in terms of social dimensions, be it those we know little about or even nothing at all. It is remarked the urgent need of social scientists taking active part in every change that must take place in the organization of SEN. Without this commitment, the Argentinean social sciences will keep being as limited in their practice as they currently are in their most relevant matters |
