| Spanish abstract | Por lo general, los estudios sobre discapacidad evitan enfocarse en personas con éxito. Este trabajo ayuda a saldar ese vacío, ya que se centra en mujeres argentinas con discapacidad motora que conquistaron más de 80 medallas paralímpicas. OBJETIVOS: Explorar las trayectorias biográficas de mujeres medallistas paralímpicas argentinas para aproximarse a sus representaciones sobre salud, deporte y discapacidad. MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio con enfoque no estándar (cualitativo) de diseño flexible, multivocal y retrospectivo. Se entrevistó a 13 deportistas paralímpicas, seleccionadas por muestreo intencional y teórico. Se las indagó con entrevistas en profundidad con guía temática, analizadas con la Teoría Fundamentada de los Datos (software Atlas.ti). RESULTADOS: Las protagonistas del estudio consideraron que habían sido “únicas” durante su infancia. A diferencia de sus progenitores, habían terminado la escolaridad entre intervenciones y rehabilitación. Aunque carecían de antecedentes deportivos, la curiosidad las llevó a aceptar la “invitación” a participar en el deporte (18 años). Debido a este encuentro con gente apasionada por el deporte –que tenía familia, estudiaba y trabajaba– se incluyeron a sí mismas en el colectivo de personas activas con discapacidad. CONCLUSIONES: El encuentro con el deporte y las personas vinculadas a él produjo un giro inesperado. La salud, cuya función era de intervención, pasó a ser de control y prevención. Se abrió un horizonte de posibilidades, y las metas para alcanzar un fin en el deporte se transfirieron a nuevas trayectorias |
| English abstract | In general, studies on disabilities do not focus on successful people. This work helps bridge the gap by studying Argentine women with motor disabilities who won more than 80 paralympic medals. OBJECTIVES: To explore the biographical path of Argentine paralympic women medallists to address their representations about health, sport and disability. METHODS: A non-standard (qualitative) study with flexible, multivocal and retrospective design was conducted. There were in-depth interviews to 13 paralympic athletes, selected using an intentional and theoretical sampling, with a thematic guide and analysis through the Grounded Theory (Atlas.ti software). RESULTS: The key actors of this study regarded themselves as “unique” during their childhood. Unlike their parents, these women had finished school between clinical interventions and rehabilitation. Although they lacked a sport background, they accepted the “invitation” to participate in sports (18 years old) out of curiosity. After meeting people passionate about sport, which had families, studied and worked, they integrated themselves into the group of disabled active people. CONCLUSIONS: The encounter with sport and people related to it produced an unexpected turn of events. Health, whose function was the intervention, turned into control and prevention. A horizon of possibilities was opened, and targets in sport were transferred in new paths |
