| Spanish abstract | A lo largo del tiempo se han realizado pocos estudios retrospectivos a nivel hospitalario para analizar los resultados histopatológicos que se atienden en los servicios de cirugía maxilofacial del mundo. El análisis histopatológico, así como los datos clínicos de los especímenes de los que se toman biopsias, son importantes para determinar un diagnóstico final y con ello enfocar el tratamiento quirúrgico adecuado. Anualmente el Servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial del Hospital Juárez de México (HJM) recibe pacientes de toda la República mexicana que presentan patologías bucales. Objetivo: Evaluar la frecuencia de estudios histopatológicos de muestras del HJM de enero a diciembre de 2019 así como la distribución de sexo, edad, diagnóstico histopatológico. Material y métodos: Se realizó estudio retrospectivo de 152 muestras histopatológicas y se analizaron variables: sexo, edad y diagnóstico histopatológico, además las lesiones se clasificaron en cinco grupos dependiendo de su origen en: inflamatorias/reactivas, infecciosas, quísticas y neoplásicas odontogénicas benignas y malignas y neoplasias no odontogénicas benignas y malignas. Resultados: El sexo femenino es el más afectado (62.5%), las lesiones de origen inflamatorio/reactivo representaron el mayor número de casos; sin embargo, el diagnóstico histopatológico más común fue el queratoquiste. Conclusiones: Nuestros resultados coinciden con datos reportados en estudios anteriores realizados a nivel hospitalario |
| English abstract | Over time, few retrospective studies have been carried out at the hospital level to analyze the histopathological results seen in the Maxillofacial Surgery services around the world. Histopathological analysis, as well as the clinical data of the specimens from which biopsies are taken, are important to determine a final diagnosis and thus giving the appropriate approach for the surgical treatment on each case. Annually the maxillofacial surgery service of the Hospital Juárez de México receives patients from all over the Mexican Republic with oral pathologies. Objective: To evaluate the frequency of histopathological studies of HJM samples from January to December 2019, as well as the distribution of sex, age, and histopathological diagnosis. Material and methods: A retrospective study of 152 histopathological samples was carried out and analizyng a number of variables: sex, age and histopathological diagnosis, in addition, the lesions were classified into five groups depending on their origin: inflammatory/reactive, infectious, cystic and benign odontogenic neoplasms and malignant and benign and malignant non-odontogenic neoplasms. Results: The female sex is the most affected (62.5%), the lesions of inflammatory/ reactive origin represented the highest number of cases; however, the most common histopathological diagnosis was keratocyst. Conclusions: Our results coincide with data reported in previous studies carried out at the hospital level |
