| English abstract | The culture in which we are inserted has dictated a familiar model to us – a patriarchal one – and this model has amalgamated ways of being, wearing, behaving and thinking. The conception of gender resulting from this culture is a built representation, therefore, it is historical, symbolic and relational; since it is a construction, then, it can be changed. Thus, the concept of masculinity and femininity is not rooted in a natural order and not even in anatomical or biological data as some societal sectors defend. Any to cultural model, such as stables or de-facto unions, homoparentality, same-sex parenting, contraceptives, are strongly rejected. Given the need we have of certainties or boundaries that assure us, then, we have difficulty to accept what is novel or different or any changes that threaten the popular imagery |
| Portuguese abstract | A cultura em que estamos inseridos ditou-nos um modelo familiar – patriarcal – e amalgamou modos de ser, vestir, comportar e pensar. A concepção de gênero resultante dessa cultura é uma representação construída, portanto, histórica, simbólica, relacional. E por ser construção, é passível de mudanças. Destarte, a masculinidade e a feminilidade não são realidades enraizadas em ordens naturais e menos ainda em dados anatômicos ou biológicos como defendem setores da sociedade. Qualquer ameaça que coloque em risco o modelo cultural, como uniões livres, homopaternidade, os contraceptivos e outros, é rechaçada veementemente. Dada a necessidade de certezas ou de contornos que nos assegurem, deparamos com dificuldades em acolher o novo, o diferente ou qualquer mudança que ameace o imaginário popular |
