| English abstract | This study presents the emergence, the evolution and the recent situation of wine in the Valley of San Francisco in northeastern Brazil. It also presents some data on the production, institutional and social organization in the territory, adopting as diagnosis method for this local productive system, the one suggested by the French school. It explains how this system has been expanded and is consolidating, due to the action of organized and cooperative companies producing wine among them and with other agents connected to the activity. It shows the recent situation and highlights the action of the public sector through the policies of human capital formation, subsidized credit, tax cuts, agro-industrial and agricultural research, improvement of support infrastructure to the production and marketing and promotional campaigns. The results highlight the trend of wine in the region and some pressure on the system, due to the fact that the conditions of the current situation are not very favourable to the wine culture in the country |
| Portuguese abstract | Mostra o surgimento, a evolução e a situação recente da vitivinicultura do Vale do São Francisco no Nordeste do Brasil. Apresenta alguns dados sobre a base produtiva, institucional e de organização social no território, tendo adotado como método de diagnóstico para esse sistema produtivo local o sugerido pela escola francesa. Explica como esse sistema vem sendo expandido e se consolidando em decorrência da ação organizada e cooperativa das empresas produtoras de vinho entre elas e com os demais agentes vinculados à atividade. Mostra a situação recente e destaca a ação do setor público através das políticas de formação de capital humano, crédito subsidiado, redução de impostos, pesquisa agrícola e agroindustrial, melhoria da infraestrutura de apoio à produção e à comercialização e de campanhas promocionais. Conclui destacando a tendência da vitivinicultura na região e de certa pressão sobre esse sistema, dado o fato de as condições da conjuntura atual não serem muito favoráveis para a vitivinicultura do país |
