| English abstract | This paper has the following objectives: analyze the origin and the development of Sergipe’s Industry from the formation of its economic complex, in the nineteenth century, to the prospects of recovery of its industrial investments in the last two years; articulate the changes of Sergipe’s industrial sector’s dynamics to the transformations in the national economy, as well as Sergipe’s position in both national and northeastern economies; analyze the evolution of Sergipe’s industrial sector in the 19th century; the 20th century’s industrial development, since the shift of its dynamic centre towards activities focused to internal market in the 1930’s, and the rise of the New Industry of Northeast stimulated by Sudene (Northeastern Development Bureau), in the 60’s and 70’s. Still in the twentieth century, it ponders on Sergipe’s industrial sector’s growth due to the II PND (Second National Development Plan) investments which matured in the 80’s. In the 90’s, commercial opening and industrial restructuration shattered Sergipe’s main project, the Chlorine Chemical Centre. Recently, in the twenty-first century, there has been a certain growth dynamics back to its industrial sector, stimulated by Sergipe’s Industrial Development Program (PSDI) |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo tem os seguintes objetivos: analisar a origem e o desenvolvimento da indústria em Sergipe, desde a formação do complexo econômico sergipano, no século XIX, até as perspectivas de retomada dos investimentos industriais nos últimos dois anos; articular as mudanças na dinâmica do setor industrial sergipano com as transformações da economia nacional e do lugar de Sergipe nas economias do Brasil e do Nordeste; analisar a evolução do setor industrial sergipano nos marcos do complexo primário exportador do século XIX, o desenvolvimento industrial do século XX, desde o deslocamento do centro dinâmico em direção às atividades voltadas para o mercado interno na década de 1930, passando pelo surgimento da Nova Indústria Nordestina incentivada pela SUDENE, nos anos 1960 e 1970 e, ainda no século XX, refletir sobre o impulso do setor industrial sergipano com a implantação dos investimentos do II PND maturados nos anos 1980. Constata que nos anos 1990, a abertura comercial e a reestruturação industrial põem por terra o principal projeto estruturador do estado de Sergipe, o pólo cloroquímico. Conclui que nos anos mais recentes, já no século XXI, o setor industrial voltou a conhecer uma certa dinâmica de crescimento, embalado pelos empreendimentos incentivados pelo Programa Sergipano de Desenvolvimento Industrial (PSDI) |
