| English abstract | This text analyzes two salient features, brought out by ethnographic observations, of an international evangelical meeting that occurred in Buenos Aires (September 22 – 24, 2008) known as the 2008 Breakthrough. We refer, first, to the articulation between global and national elements – the former glorified especially by the organizer and principal protagonists of the event, and the latter valued especially by the faithful. The second feature refers to the quest for power and knowledge as mobilizing elements for pastors and adepts from different nations to participate in the event |
| Portuguese abstract | Este texto analisa dois aspectos que sobressaíram na observação etnográfica de um encontro evangélico internacional, ocorrido em Buenos Aires, entre os dias 22 e 24 de setembro de 2008, conhecido como Breakthrough 2008. Trata-se da articulação entre o global e o nacional – o primeiro enaltecido sobretudo pelos organizadores e principais protagonistas do evento, o segundo especialmente pelos fiéis – e da busca de poder e conhecimento, percebidos como elementos mobilizadores da participação de pastores e fiéis de diferentes nações no mencionado evento |
