| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo aborda la emergencia del activismo católico antiabortista pro-vida y su conversión en una red de activismo político transnacional. Mediante la reconstrucción de una genealogía histórica, el trabajo analiza los orígenes del movimiento pro-life en los Estados Unidos en la década de los ’70, y la expansión que de dicho fenómeno se fue dando a lo largo de Latinoamérica y el mundo. Asimismo, las formas en que la Iglesia Católica halló en el activismo pro-vida un aliado central en el emprendimiento de su lucha antiabortista. Se analiza también la activación de la bioética católica como discurso opositor al aborto y la forma en que esta es entrelazada a las resignificaciones de la memoria del Holocausto para retratar al aborto como crimen y genocidio |
| English abstract | This article addresses the emergence of pro-life anti-abortion Catholic activism and its conversion into a network of transnational political activism. Through the reconstruction of a historical genealogy, the work analyzes the origins of the pro-life movement in the United States in the 1970s, and the expansion of this phenomenon throughout Latin America and the world. Likewise, the ways in which the Catholic Church found in pro-life activism a central ally in the undertaking of its anti-abortion struggle. It also analyzes the activation of catholic bioethics as a speech opposed to abortion and the way in which it is intertwined with the resignifications of the memory of the Holocaust to portray abortion as a crime and genocide |
