| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo estudia aspectos tecnológicos y ambientales de la industrialización de la resina de pino durante el siglo XX en la Sierra de Tapalpa. La intención es conocer los procesos de la transferencia tecnológica europea, desde arriba, y la respuesta de los bosques y sus habitantes, desde abajo. El marco teórico-metodológico es el tecnoambiental, que reconoce la relación consumo-producción en la configuración tecnológica, y la agencia y asociaciones entre actores humanos y no humanos. Tres son las conclusiones: 1) la transferencia tecnológica, además de un tema politizado, tuvo efectos culturales; 2) los conflictos detectados no fueron motivados por la imposición tecnológica, sino a raíz del establecimiento de ejidos y la consecuente disputa para producir resina o madera, disyuntiva inexistente antes del proceso de industrialización resinera; y 3) a pesar de las deficiencias en la aplicación de la técnica europea y de la ausencia de gestión forestal los bosques lograron conservarse en el largo plazo |
| English abstract | This article analyzes technological and environmental facets of the process of pine resin industrialization during the 20th century in the Sierra de Tapalpa, southern Jalisco. The aim is to elucidate the processes of European technology transfer -from above- and the response of the forests and their inhabitants, from below. The theoretical and methodological framework is of a techno-environmental type that recognizes the relation between production and consumption in the technological configuration, and the agency of, and associations between, the human and non-human actors involved. The study reached three conclusions: 1) technology transfer, in addition to being a politicized issue, had cultural effects; 2) the conflicts detected were not motivated by technological imposition, but by the establishment of ejidos and the consequent disputes over resin vs. timber production, a dilemma that did not exist prior to this industrialization process; and 3) despite deficiencies in the implementation of the European technique and the absence of forestry management, the forests were preserved in the long term |
