| Spanish abstract | Tras abordar la relación existente entre policía y régimen político y describir las características fundamentales del modelo de policía que requiere la democracia, este artículo pretende plantear un modelo de medición del desempeño policial democrático que permita a los países monitorear los avances y/o retrocesos que al respecto presentan los cuerpos policiales. | English abstract | Recognizing the relevance of police performance for the consolidation of the democratic system, this article assesses the performance of the National Police of Colombia between 2005-2014. To do this, he calculated the Democratic Police Performance Index, composed of three key dimensions of democratic police performance: success, legitimacy and police legality. The results obtained show that police performance in the country is far from being democratic and the consolidation of this type of regime demands the necessary internalization of democratic values in the security body |
