| English abstract | Sustainability, what does it mean? Some theorists have already a clear and cut answer, some others are analyzing and criticizing the term. However, it is clear that there isn"t a consensus about its meaning, or the way we should use it. Nevertheless the time has gone, and it is necessary to reach this consensus; in order to do this, it is necessary to study the history of the concept, understand the present, and develop a conceptual frame that enables us to predict potential scenarios. The aim of this essay is to present a statistical analysis of the sustainability concept timeline from the seventies until now discussing its aspects. As well this essay discusses how the concept of "limits of growth" works akin to a catastrophically ecological book and how politics took part in the definition of sustainability. The authors explore those scholars who declared war to the term as well as the strategy of use the environmental tragedy as a strategy to increase revenue. |
| Spanish abstract | Qué significa la sustentabilidad, algunos teóricos quizás tengan la respuesta, algunos otros la analizan y hay quienes critican el término. Sin embargo, es claro que no hay un consenso, mucho menos algún acuerdo y peor aún no sabemos cómo aplicarlo. No obstante, el tiempo se nos va, y es necesario alcanzar acuerdos. Por ello, resulta necesario conocer la historia, para comprender el presente y quizá predecir el futuro. El objetivo de este ensayo es presentar un breve análisis estadístico sobre la sustentabilidad y su línea de tiempo desde los años 70"s hasta nuestros días. Del mismo modo se analizarán los límites del crecimiento quizá como el libro que predecía proféticamente la catástrofe por la que pasamos y también como los políticos han usado el concepto. Finalmente, algunos autores nos permiten conocer sus posturas y sobre todo analizar como el término ha servido como estrategia para alcanzar algunas de sus metas políticas, sin que esto se revierta en mejora del medio ambiente. |
