| English abstract | The study investigated the experience of fatherhood in the baby's third month. Participants included 38 married primiparous fathers, aged 20 to 40 years old, who answered a semistructured interview. A content analysis was carried out comprising four categories: Perceptions about their own fatherhood, Living with the child, Living with the wife, and Parental models. The results showed fatherhood is an experience full of positive feelings, satisfaction and desire for greater involvement in the child's live. Difficulties reported were related to care and daily situations with their child revealing fatherhood can be tiring and arduous. The fathers' experience was discussed in light of the new ideal of fatherhood in our society |
| Portuguese abstract | O estudo investigou a experiência da paternidade aos três meses do bebê. Participaram 38 pais primíparos, casados, com idades entre 20 e 40 anos que responderam a uma entrevista semiestruturada. Foi realizada análise de conteúdo dos relatos que originou quatro categorias: Percepções sobre a própria paternidade, Convivendo com o filho, Convivendo com a esposa e Modelos parentais. Os achados evidenciaram uma experiência repleta de sentimentos positivos quanto à relação com o filho em que predominou a satisfação e o desejo de participar mais na vida deles. As dificuldades referiram-se ao dia-a-dia e cuidado com os filhos, revelando que a paternidade pode ser, por vezes, cansativa. Discute-se a experiência dos pais frente ao novo ideal de paternidade vigente na sociedade atual |
