| English abstract | Religious choices may translate into behavioral and conceptual transformations on all levels of the life of the decision maker. A redefinition of aspects of the social identity may result therefrom, as a consequence of the affiliation to a new group, and interpersonal relationships can suffer expressive changes in the way they are lived, specially the relationships with the spouse and children. The objective of this work was to identify, describe and analyze conceptions and practices relative to the interrelated themes of conjugal life, family building, and life project of couples that belong to a neo-charismatic group, as well as the comprehension of the implied identity formation process. Using a semi- -structured script, ten couples who have been married between one and ten years, parents or not, were interviewed. The answers were about their involvement with the religious group, their conjugal relationship, the relationship with their children, and plans for the future. The data were organized through QSR software and submitted to a content analysis procedure. Choosing to belong to a new religious group brought changes on social identity that influenced the interviewees’ conceptions and practices with respect to the people they live with, especially towards the spouse and the children. The conjugal relationship began to be understood and lived as indissoluble, thus increasing the disposition to administrate the conflicts that appear in the relationship. The disposition to forgive and to renounce certain actions and conceptions for the benefit of the relationship also increased. | Portuguese abstract | Opções religiosas podem se traduzir em transformações comportamentais e conceituais em todas as esferas da vida de quem as faz. Pode resultar daí a redefinição de aspectos da identidade social, em decorrência da filiação a um novo grupo. Os relacionamentos interpessoais, especialmente com o cônjuge e com os filhos, também podem passar a ser vividos com mudanças expressivas. Conhecer, descrever e analisar concepções e práticas relativas aos temas inter-relacionados da vida conjugal, constituição de família e projeto de vida de casais pertencentes a um grupo evangélico neopentecostal, bem como a compreensão do processo de formação identitária implicado, foi o objetivo do presente trabalho. Foram entrevistados, por meio de roteiro semiestruturado, dez casais com participação ativa em uma igreja evangélica neopentecostal, casados entre um e dez anos, com ou sem filhos. Eles responderam perguntas sobre seu envolvimento com o grupo religioso, seu relacionamento conjugal e com os filhos, e seus planos para o futuro. Os dados foram submetidos a procedimento de análise de conteúdo, organizados por meio do software QSR. A opção por um novo grupo religioso acarretou mudanças em termos de identidade social que influenciaram concepções e práticas dos participantes em relação às pessoas com as quais convivem, especialmente com cônjuges e filhos. O relacionamento conjugal passou a ser compreendido e vivido como indissolúvel, com o que aumentou a disposição para administrar conflitos, perdoar, e renunciar a determinadas ações e concepções em benefício da relação.
