| English abstract | The aim of this article is to discuss proposal related to the teaching of Geometry defended by the Modern Mathematics Movement (MMM) on the basis of an analysis of the theses and dissertations with these movement as a central theme. These analyses indicate that Geometry, in the elementary school, was neglected in these curriculum innovations, despite the fact that proposals for change had not been conceived in this way. The text raised questions related to the teaching of Geometry, which merit further investigation in order that the role of Geometry in the MMM be better understood. We believe that research based in the notion of school culture will bring answers to many of these questions, contributing significantly to a better understanding of the MMM |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo tem como objetivo discutir propostas sobre o ensino de Geometria defendidas pelo Movimento da Matemática Moderna (MMM), a partir da análise de teses e dissertações que tomam esse movimento como tema central. Ao que tudo indica, a Geometria relativa ao Ensino Fundamental ficou à margem do processo dessas inovações curriculares, muito embora propostas de mudança tenham sido elaboradas com essa finalidade. Ao longo do artigo, algumas questões referentes ao ensino de Geometria foram levantadas, as quais necessitam de investigações mais aprofundadas de modo a permitir uma melhor compreensão do papel assumido pela Geometria durante o MMM. Acreditamos que pesquisas subsidiadas na noção de cultura escolar trarão respostas a muitas dessas indagações, contribuindo significativamente para um melhor entendimento do MMM |
