| Resumen en español | El estado de Veracruz cuenta con una gran riqueza florística y cultural que ha permitido el desarrollo de un vasto conocimiento herbolario. Si bien existen diversos estudios que registran el uso medicinal de las plantas, aún quedan áreas geográficas y culturas autóctonas con escasa o nula información. Este es el caso de la Región Tének o Huasteca ubicada al noreste del Estado, que a pesar de la gran tradición que han tenido como médicos tradicionales y conocedores de la herbolaria, el acercamiento a esta etnia ha sido casi nulo en este rublo. El objetivo de esta investigación es contribuir al conocimiento de la cultura Tének de Veracruz, a través de la documentación de la herbolaria tradicional en la comunidad de San Francisco, del Municipio de Chontla. Mediante entrevistas abiertas y semiestructuradas a los tres médicos tradicionales (MT) de mayor prestigio en la comunidad, se documentó el uso de las especies medicinales utilizadas por ellos, con base a la demanda de atención de los pobladores. A través de recorridos en compañía de los MT, se recolectaron las especies en campo e identificaron botánicamente. De las siete especies que los médicos tradicionales coincidieron en mencionar, se determinó en el 10% de la población, por rangos de edad, el conocimiento que existe sobre ellas. Se determinaron también, la significancia cultural mediante el índice de fidelidad (FL), que incluye el rango de prioridad (ROP) y la popularidad relativa (RPL). Además, se calculó el índice de valor de uso para las estructuras morfológicas de las plantas utilizadas. Se documentaron un total de 97 especies medicinales las que se incluyen en 53 familias y 84 géneros. Se encontraron ocho nuevos registros a la Flora Medicinal de Veracruz. | Resumen en inglés | The Veracruz State has a great floristic and cultural wealth that has allowed the development of herbal knowledge. Nowadays there are a lot of studies that record the medicinal use of the plants. Nevertheless, there are insufficient or even null information about some segregated geographic areas and even of some native cultures of the region. That is the scenario of the Huasteca and Tének regions, located at the northeast of the State. Even with his vast knowledge and traditions about herbology and as practicing herbalists, there has been no approach to them in this area. The main goal of this research is to contribute to the understanding of the Tének culture through the documentation of his herbal traditional practices on the San Francisco community (at the Chontla Municipality). We documented the use of most required medicinal species by the population, trough open and semi structured interviews to the three most prestigious and recognized Traditional Herbalist (TH). With the support of this TH we collected and identify botanical specimens on the field. Of the six species that all the three TH mentioned, we collected the 10% of the knowledge of the population about them (we did it establishing ranges of ages). Also, we determined the cultural significance due to a fidelity index (FI), which includes the priority range (PR) and the relative popularity (RP). What´s more, the value index for the use of morphologic structures of the used plants was calculated.
