| Spanish abstract | ¿Qué es un inmigrante? Para responder esto no bastan definiciones formales. Es necesario entender cuándo surge la figura del inmigrante, de qué manera surge y a través de qué mecanismos. Nos proponemos, precisamente, mostrar cómo los mecanismos de nacionalización de la sociedad crearon, y aún crean, una cierta identidad nacional, que funciona a la manera de una subjetivación y, como reverso, crean al inmigrante. El inmigrante sería, así, un producto específico de los procesos de formación del Estado y la nación, y sería inseparable del problema de la nacionalidad tanto como el del nacionalismo, el del racismo y el de la ciudadanía. En última instancia, el asunto del inmigrante muestra los costos de la configuración Estado-nación y el límite de nuestras maneras de organizar la sociedad |
| English abstract | What is an immigrant? To answer this, formal definitions are not enough. We need to understand when, in which way, and through what mechanisms, did the figure of the immigrant appear. We want to show precisely how did the nationalization of society produce and still produces some sort of national identity that works as subjectivation and creates the immigrant. The immigrant would be a specific product of the nation and State formation process, and it would be inseparable of the problem of nationality as well as the problem of nationalism, racism and citizenship. As a last resort, the question of the immigrant shows the costs of the nation-State configuration shows the limits of our ways to organize the society |
