| English abstract | The double love plot in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing points to realities far beyond the traditional theme of the troubles of young lovers. Don Pedro’s gullibility in the assessing of the slanders against Hero as well as his cunning stratagem to bring together Beatrice and Benedick may be seen as bespeaking Shakespeare’s understanding of the political role of the Prince. This presentation explores the connections between Shakespeare’s and Machiavelli’s reading of the political dimension of the actions of the Prince by examining the character of Don Pedro and his decisions in the play |
