| Spanish abstract | Los trabajos históricos en torno a los hacendados yucatecos se han enfocado principalmente en la constitución y desarrollo de las oligarquías sobre todo en la época del henequén. Poco se conoce de los pequeños propietarios, quienes vivían en los pueblos y apenas poseían una modesta hacienda. Así, este trabajo pretende ser un primer acercamiento a este grupo en el periodo en que la hacienda comenzaba a desarrollarse, es decir, entre fines del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX. | English abstract | Historical analysis about Yucatan landowners have focused on the oligarchy, particularly during the great epoch of sisal harvesting. But we know little about smaller scale landowners and their corresponding haciendas. This paper presents a first approach to this unknown group in the period when haciendas began to develop in Yucatan, at the end of the eighteenth century and at the beginning of nineteenth century. We will outline their general characteristics and identify their strategies including some of their individual careers |
