| Spanish abstract | El texto estudia las particularidades de la región fronteriza entre México y Estados Unidos durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Plantea líneas generales sobre las distintas fronteras del septentrión mexicano, haciendo énfasis en Alta California. Asimismo, examina esa frontera en relación con la expansión estadounidense y revisa las distintas formas de avance “anglo”, hispano y mexicano sobre las tierras del norte de México, es decir, pondera los diferentes ritmos de avance y su naturaleza diversa. De igual forma, analiza las similitudes y las diferencias en la relación de estas comarcas con el centro mexicano para comprender la dimensión de las regiones periféricas |
| English abstract | The article studies the singularities of the border region between Mexico and the United States throughout the first half of the nineteenth century. Broadly speaking it outlines the different border regions of northern Mexico, emphasizing Northern California. It also examines this border in relation with the American expansion and reviews and distinguishes between the "Anglo", Hispanic and Mexican advance, by reflecting on their differing rhythms and diverse nature. It analyzes as well the similarities and differences these areas had with the Mexican center in order to understand the characteristics of peripheral regions |
