| Spanish abstract | En una década, centenares de estudios nacionales e internacionales se han fundamentado en los datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Inmigrantes (ENI 2007), la mayor jamás realizada en España. Sin embargo, la presente investigación sobre la diáspora marroquí revela significativas incongruencias en sus datos, debido a una sobrestimación muestral de la inmigración llegada décadas atrás, en detrimento de flujos más recientes. Este sesgo afecta a los valores de diversas variables condicionadas por el tiempo de permanencia en el país de destino y distorsiona el perfil estadístico divulgado sobre el colectivo en cuestión. En un periodo delicado y tenso de la historia inmigratoria en Occidente, donde la precisión estadística es fundamental para el estudio exhaustivo de la población extranjera y para la gestación de políticas públicas pertinentes al respecto |
| English abstract | Since it was carried out a decade ago, hundreds of studies have been based on the Spanish ‘National Survey of Immigrants’ (ENI 2007), the largest ever conducted in this country. However, the present research about the Moroccan diaspora living in Spain reveals significant inconsistences in the ENI’s data, rooted in the sampling overestimation of previous immigration flows and the underestimation of more recent arrivals. Such bias affects the values of many variables dependent on the length of time spent in the host country, and distorts the published statistical profile of Moroccan immigrants, as well as those of other groups of foreign origin. In this period of high tensions over immigration in Western countries, where statistical accuracy is key instrument to study minorities and to implement appropriate public policies for them |
