| Spanish abstract | El Dr. Ismael Ferrusquía Villafranca labora en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) desde hace 60 años y actualmente, ostenta en ella los niveles máximos como investigador, al igual que en el Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI). Su trayectoria profesional le ha valido numerosos reconocimientos, entre los que destacan: Beca de la John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Nueva York; Fellow, Geological Society of America; y el que colegas le hayan dedicado tres taxones nuevos. En este trabajo, se da a conocer su trayectoria profesional desde sus inicios como investigador, docente, así como otros aspectos, por ejemplo, el de fundador de la Sociedad Mexicana de Paleontología SOMEXPAL o el de ser un defensor consciente de la necesidad de proteger el patrimonio paleontológico mexicano. La semblanza finaliza con un análisis personal del Dr. Ferrusquía y su visión de la paleontología de vertebrados en México |
| English abstract | Doctor Ismael Ferrusquía Villafranca has worked at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for 60 years and currently holds the highest levels of it as a researcher, likewise in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI). In his professional career, he has received numerous recognitions including Fellow, John Simon Memorial Foundation, New York; Fellow, Geological Society of America; and the fact that his colleagues have dedicated three new taxa to him. In this work, his professional career is revealed from his beginnings as a researcher and teacher and through other aspects such as his role as the founder of SOMEXPAL or as a conscientious defender of the need to protect the Mexican paleontological heritage. The biographical sketch ends with a personal analysis of Dr. Ferrusquía and his vision of Vertebrate Paleontology in Mexico |
