| English abstract | The purpose of this article is to deepen in the anthropological work of Fernando Ortiz Fernandez, highlighting his most essential qualities in this fundamental science. Fernando Ortiz Fernandez was the founder of the discipline that he came to represent, anthropology, he gave it a method and language of its own. He was called by Juan Marinello the "third discoverer of Cuba", after Christopher Columbus and Alexander von Humboldt, because of his wide scientific work on Cuban culture. He was a member and founder of the most important cultural institutions of the republican era in Cuba, he developed the concept of transculturation in his Cuban Counterpoint of Tobacco and Sugar to talk about the forced contact between Indians, Europeans and Africans, which resulted in the Cuban society. |
| Spanish abstract | Este artículo tiene como propósito profundizar en la labor antropológica de Fernando Ortiz Fernández, resaltando sus cualidades más esenciales en esta ciencia fundamental Fernando Ortiz Fernández fue fundador de la disciplina que llegó a representar, la antropología, la dotó de un método y lenguaje propios. Llamado por Juan Marinello el "tercer descubridor de Cuba", después de Cristóbal Colón y Alexander von Humboldt, por su labor científica amplia sobre la cultura cubana. Fue miembro y fundador de las más importantes instituciones culturales de la época republicana en Cuba, desarrolló el concepto de la transculturación en su Contrapunteo cubano del tabaco y el azúcar para hablar del contacto forzado entre indígenas, europeos y africanos, cuyo resultado fue la sociedad cubana. |
