| Spanish abstract | El propósito de la presente investigación fue identificar las relaciones existentes entre el patrón craneofacial y los cambios en tejidos duros y blandos en la dimensión vertical en pacientes clase II división 1 y 2, que durante el transcurso de su terapéutica debieron utilizar mecánica con elásticos de clase II. Se realizaron 24 medidas cefalométricas sobre las radiografías de 20 pacientes, 10 hiperdivergentes y 10 hipodivergentes, antes y después del uso de los elásticos. De estas medidas, sólo fueron significativas para los hiperdivergentes SN01, PM01, SNGN, COA1, ENAE, COGN, GOGN, ENAM, ENAG y para los hipodivergentes PP01, SN01, SNGN, COA1, ENAE y COGN, a las cuales se les aplicó el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson. Ninguna de las variables demostró diferencias significativas en las medias antes y después del tratamiento. No se observaron variaciones significativas en cuanto al aumento de la altura facial inferior para ninguno de los grupos (ENAM y ENAG) ni para la inclinación del ángulo mandibular (SNGN). Por lo tanto, se concluye que no está contraindicado el uso de elásticos clase II en pacientes adultos de acuerdo a su patrón craneofacial |
| English abstract | The aim of the present study was to identify the relationship between the craniofacial patterns and the changes on skeletal and facial vertical-dimension in patients Class II division 1 and 2 whom during their treatment should use class II elastics. 24 craniofacial measurements were obtained from the X-ray radiographs of 20 patients, 10 hyper- and 10 hypodivergents, before and after using of the elastics. The Pearson product moment correlation test was applied to specific measurements (SN01, PM01, SNGN, COA1, ENAE, COGN, GOGN, ENAM, ENAG for hyper and PP01, SN01, SNGN, COA1, ENAE y COGN hypodivergents), showing no significant changes between the measurements before and after treatment, for any of the variables assessed. It was found no significant change on the lower facial height (ENAM y ENAG) for either group, neither for the gonial angle (SNGN). Therefore, these findings suggest that the use of class II elastics could not be contraindicated in nongrowing patients according to their craniofacial pattern |
